For example, developers can create applications that connect to the web dictionary and runs on top of Microsoft Word version of Office 2013. Another example, Twitter application that runs on top of Outlook.
Vivek Narasimhan, product manager for SharePoint from Microsoft, said that many people spend time running the Office applications. But they also realize a lot of important information and devices are 'live' on the web.
"We built this store so you can integrate the best features from web with Office and SharePoint," he said in an official Microsoft blog for OfficeApps.
Applications in Office Store Web-based, unlike the previous Office plug-in generally is offline. This application will be attached to user accounts, not on the computer.
For now, the applications in Office Store is available for Microsoft Office 2013 version of Preview. During the preview period, all applications are free to use.
