Yahoo just acquired OnTheAir, a startup that offers mobile video chat. Unfortunately Yahoo did not disclose the value of the acquisition. However, Yahoo confirmed the news of the acquisition. This is the second acquisition made Yahoo since Marissa Mayer sat down as Yahoo's new CEO since July. Last month, Yahoo also bought smartphone maker app called Stamped Recommendations are an engine that was built by fellow Mayer at Google.
Mobile market is currently booming. And Mayer will focus on developing these markets in the future. "Our main priority is mobile strategy focused and coherent," he said as quoted by Cnet page on Wednesday (12/05/2012)
OnTheAir itself is a service that allows users to video chat in a talk show format.
Further stated, this acquisition appears to be done not because of technology but because of the people who are gifted. In addition there is one former Google employee, on the team OnTheAir also a former Apple employee and instant messaging service Meebo.
"Hiring thinkers and engineers the most talented mobile products is our priority in order to move forward," said Adam solving, senior vice president of emerging products and technology Yahoo. (dew)
On the other hand OnTheAir one of the executives said they were pleased to be joined by Yahoo and help Yahoo reach a dream to build a superior product.
Internet analyst Greg Sterling suspect that these people (in OnTheAir) will join Yahoo as an engineer in the mobile sector.
