Structure Sense of Taste

Sense of Taste on the human is tongue. On the surface of the tongue are tiny bumps called papillae, so that the surface looks rough tongue. Based on the shape of papillae can be divided into three types:
  1. Papila filiformis is papilla shaped like fine threads, these papillae abundant in the front of the tongue.
  2. Papila fungiformis is papilla shaped like a mushroom head bumps, these papillae are on the front of the tongue and the sides of the tongue.
  3. Papila sirkumvalata is papilla shaped like the letter V upside down and there at the base of the tongue.

Within each papilla there are many taste buds or taste buds. Each taste bud consists of two types of cells are cells whose function is to advocate and support the taste cells that serves as a receptor and have bulge like hair coming out of the taste buds.

Each taste bud will respond maximally to one flavor. Taste buds can distinguish four kinds of taste, the sweetness, bitterness, sourness, and saltiness. Sweet taste buds are more numerous in the tip of the tongue, bitter taste taste buds located at the base of the tongue, sour taste buds located on the back left and right tongue, and taste the salty taste buds located on the front left and right tongue. A number of taste buds are also found in the throat and palate of the oral cavity.
