Apple is eyeing an alternative display technology that will be used for the next iPhone smart phones. The technology called Touch on Display, developed by Taiwan-based Chimei Innolux Corporation. According to a report in The China Times, Thursday (01/03/2012), Apple was evaluating screen. Chimei Innolux itself listed as one of Apple's component suppliers LCD screens in 2012.
Currently, the iPhone uses a technology called in-cell touch. Well, the technology is said to be replaced by Touch on Display, which is claimed to have a better touch sensitivity, but designed very thin. This allows the design of the phone so much thinner.
Apple put a huge investment for the affairs of the screen. The company founded by Steve Jobs is developing technology Retina Display from the iPhone 4 the size of 3.5 inches. Retina Display increased pixel density on the screen so that the colors produced sharper.
Screen is the most expensive component in the iPhone. IHS iSuppli research institute in September 2012 and estimates, Apple had to spend 44 dollars on touch-screen technology on the iPhone. The amount is far above the price of the wireless antenna components, NAND flash memory, and processor series A.
Retina Display technology currently adopted for the third-generation iPad and is also used on the MacBook Pro laptops.
