Google Removing 5 Services Not Productive

Google fairly diligent in making the new service because they believe the digital industry creates tremendous opportunities to improve people's lives. However, when there are services that are found to be productive, Google does not hesitate to close it.



Until September 2011, Google has closed the 30 services that are not productive. Google said the closure of a service is a difficult choice because it would be detrimental to users. However, Google should focus on services used by more users.

In early July 2012, Google has shut down five service again. These five services will be closed, as quoted from the official Google blog:

1. Google Mini

Released in 2005, specialized search services for the company was terminated on July 31, 2012. However, its function remains embedded in the product Google Search Appliance, Google Site Search, and Google Commerce Search.

2. Google Talk Chatback

Google Talk allows a site Chatback embed Google Talk widget so that the site look more interactive. Google considers this service is out of date, and recommends its users to switch to Meebo, an instant messaging company with a product which Google acquired last June.

3. Google Video

Video services will be transferred to YouTube. Google gives the time until August 20, 2012 to Google Video users to transfer video content to YouTube, delete, or download it.

4. iGoogle

Released in 2005, iGoogle is a user's page can be customized with various widgets and RSS subscriptions from your favorite sites or blogs. This service will be retired on 1 November 2013. Users have 16 months to export their data.

5. Symbian Search App

Special Services for Nokia Symbian smartphone will be terminated. Google recommends users of these services to use the Google search engine in their browser.
