High School Students Vulnerable to Cyberbullying

Recent research shows that five of the 30 high school students have been victims of violence on the internet (cyberbullying) in the past year. Including 10 students on average spend up to three hours or more to play online games or use the internet for school work.

"Cyberbullying against high school students often become a threat to self-esteem, emotional well-being and social standing victim. Where, the teenage years are a very vulnerable stage, "said chairman of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cohen Children's Medical Center in New York, Andrew Adesman, MD.

"Teens are connected to the internet all the time would potentially hurt himself in a way that is different," he said as quoted by Scienceblog Monday (05/06/2013).

The researchers analyzed the data 15 425 public and private high school students drawn from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey since 2011. The result, one of six high school students (approximately 16.2 percent) reported to have experienced cyberbullying in the last 12 months.

Results also mention that most victims of cyberbullying is that black children. In addition, girls tend to actively report the incident, while boys are more covert about cyberbullying experiences.

"Cyberbullying is a very real danger and can cause trauma in children, especially teenagers. Where it has the potential to cause serious consequences. Unfortunately, there are many parents who do not know about this, "said researchers from Cohen Children's Medical Center, Karen Ginzburg.

"By identifying the high-risk group who experienced cyberbullying, is expected to grow awareness and prevention strategies are not things that we want," he said.
